South East Aceh Police Confiscate Seven Tons of Illegal Timber

Southeast Aceh Police arrested two alleged illegal loggers while securing seven tons of timber in two locations; Bunga Melur Village Highland in sub-district Deleng Pokhisen and forest in sub-district Darul Hasanah on Sunday (23/10)

Southeast Aceh criminal police Iptu M. Firdaus led the police operation, which in turn confiscated those timbers and arrest the suspect. According to Southeast Aceh Police Chief AKBP Drs. Arsyad KH, police received the information about these illegal loggers from the communities.

Police teams went to investigate the crime scene around the mountainous area of Bunga Melur, Melur Village and managed to seize four cubic (3,5 tons) of timber and arresting two suspects; Hamidin (38) and Yadin (27). “Some of the timbers were found sliced into boards and slat, and some others are still in tree trunk form,” as testified by the police chief.

Meanwhile, on the other location, Police also confiscated 3,5 tons of timber that has been sliced into planks and boards in the forest within sub-district Darul Hasanah. These timbers are now secured in Darul Hasanah Police Station.

Kasat Reskrim M. Firdaus admit that those timber seized in Bunga Melur village has not been removed from the crime scene given the logistic limitations and difficulty to transport these timbers to the edge of the forest due to steep terrain.
