BPKEL has the Following Responsibilities :
  • Prepare a Management Plan for the Leuser Ecosystem Area
  • Manage the Leuser Ecosystem Area Including the Implementation of Conservation and Area Safeguarding Protection Activities, Restoration of Area Functions, Monitoring Activities and the Utilisation of Environmental Ecological Services in a Sustainable Manner
  • Conduct Delineation of the Leuser Ecosystem Boundary with Local Communities and the Relevant Agencies
  • With Local Community Elements, Conduct Safeguarding Activities and Support Law Enforcement Against Violators in the Leuser Ecosystem
  • Optimise the Participation of Local Communities in the Supervision of the Leuser Ecosystem
  • Prepare Implementation Guidelines Relating to the Management of the Leuser Ecosystem Area
  • Formulate Policies for the Sustainable Utilisation of the Area
  • Implement the Sustainable Utilisation of the Leuser Ecosystem Area
  • Regulate and Promote the Sale of Carbon Credits for Aceh
  • Cooperate with the Relevant Agencies and/or Other Stakeholders in Order to Support the Management of the Leuser Ecosystem Area
  • Compile Plans and Manage Finances Relating to the Management of the Leuser Ecosystem Area
  • Conduct Programmes for Resettlement for Residents in the Leuser Ecosystem Area
BPKEL has the Authority :
  • to Manage the Leuser Ecosystem Area in Aceh by Protecting, Safeguarding, Conserving, Restoring Area Functions and Utilizing the Area Sustainably
  • to Coordinate and Cooperate with the City/ District Government and Other Parties in the Management of the Leuser Ecosystems
  • to Control the Issuance of Licenses for the Sustainable Utilisation of the Leuser Ecosystems
  • to Seek Funds for the Management of the Leuser Ecosystems
  • to Coordinate the Handling of Problems or Conflicts in the Leuser Ecosystems and Give Directions and Suggestions for Their Resolution.
